Atiu is also
called Enuamanu (Island Of Birds) and for a good reason.
You will be surprised how many different exotic birds George
Mateariki will show you on this walk!
In charge
of the “Kakerori Recovery Program” initiated
in 2001 on Atiu in order to save the rare Rarotonga Flycatcher
(Kakerori) from extinction, George will call his curious
protégés to come and greet you.
|
He
will show you their newly established nests, proof that they
have adopted Enuamanu as their new home island.

Kakerori or Rarotongan Flycatcher
|

Ngotare or Atiu Kingfisher
You
will get breathtaking opportunities to photograph wildlife
and nature.
|
|

"Birdman"
George will share his traditional knowledge about food preparation,
medicine, fishing and farming with you.
|
You
will wander along one of the few ancient paved paths that are
left on our island through rugged and hauntingly beautiful rain
forest and learn about George’s ancestors’ past as warriors
and navigators. The tour ends after approximately 3 to 4 hours
at one of Atiu’s unique beaches with local food, prepared for
you in true island style.

You can book your participation through
your host on Atiu or directly ringing (+682) 33047.
Enjoy!
